PLEASE NOTE:
The new F3125 specification is a consolidation and replacement of six ASTM standards, including; A325, A325M, A490, A490M, F1852, and F2280. Until the F3125 specification is more widely used and until the A325 and A490 specifications have been eliminated by ASTM, we will continue to manufacture and sell A325 and A490 heavy hex structural bolts under their existing specification requirements, unless F3125 is referenced in the inquiry and/or purchase order.ASTM A325 (F3125)
Structural bolts, steel, heat treated, 120/105 ksi minimum tensile strength.
The ASTM A325 specification covers high strength heavy hex structural bolts from 1/2” diameter through 1-1/2” diameter. These bolts are intended for use in structural connections and therefore have shorter thread lengths than standard hex bolts.
This specification is applicable to heavy hex structural bolts only. For bolts of other configurations and thread lengths with similar mechanical properties, see Specification A449.
Bolts for general applications, including anchor bolts, are covered by Specification A449. Also refer to Specification A449 for quenched and tempered steel bolts and studs with diameters greater than 1-1/2″ but with similar mechanical properties.

Precision Bolts offers ASTM A325 bolts type 1 as complete assemblies or bolts only.
Bolts are typically supplied as plain or hot dip galvanized, in diameters from 1/2” to 1-1/4” and lengths to 8”.
Fully threaded bolts are available, (thread to head, in lengths up to four times the diameter).
All of these bolts are heat treated to a minimum tensile strengh of 120 KSI up to 1” diameter, and 105 KSI over 1”.
A325 STRUCTURAL BOLTS TYPE III
ASTM A325 type III structural bolts are made of a special chemistry corrosion resistant, or weathering steel,
an alloy steel, containing copper, chromium and nickel. Type III fasteners are primarily used in outdoor structures.
As the surface of the steel corrodes, the type III material forms a fine-textured oxide coating. This oxide coating seals the surface of the base metal and appears to be a uniform fine grained, deep brown rust color.
Structural bolts in grade A325 type III all have mechanical properties identical to the standard fasteners properties.
Thus, type III structural fasteners can be substituted for standard structural fasteners.
A490 STRUCTURAL BOLTS TYPE I
ASTM A490 structural bolts type I are only supplied in plain (black) finish. These bolts are heat-treated to a tensile
strength range greater than 150 KSI. Medium carbon, alloy steel is used for these bolts.
All test results and suggestions are based on laboratory tests. Specific job site conditions should be taken into consideration when specifying the proper fastener. Because applications vary, we assume no liability for use of this information.
