The new F3125 specification is a consolidation and replacement of six ASTM standards, including; A325, A325M, A490, A490M, F1852 (A325 TC), and F2280 (A490 TC). The ASTM F3125 Grade F2280, (Also known as A490 TC bolts) specification cover heat treated, steel, tension control bolt-nut-washer assemblies, also referred to as “sets.” These assemblies are capable of developing a minimum predetermined tension when installed by applying torque to the nut, while at the same time applying a counter torque to separate the spline end from the body of the bolt using an appropriate spline drive installation tool.
Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee F16 on Fasteners, the F2280 specification was withdrawn in May 2016 and replaced by Specification F3125 for High Strength Structural Bolts, Steel and Alloy Steel, Heat Treated, 120 ksi Minimum Tensile Strength, Inch and Metric Dimensions.

^{C} Bolt pitch oversize limit in case of dispute. Material within the plain gauge limits which meets the coating thickness requirements and assembles freely need not be
measured to this tolerance.
